Our Process

At Lux Beef, we raise every cow carefully and diligently to ensure the healthiest cattle possible. Every beef cow that we sell is raised from birth on our farm, and in many cases, we see the newborn calf just hours after birth. When our calves are several months old, we dehorn them (for their safety and ours), tag them, take DNA samples (to verify their quality), and give them vitamins to help them remain healthy and strong. We do this ourselves with assistance.

 

For the next few years, we continue to take care of them, and feed them hay when they are short on grass in the dry summers and cold winters. We watch them to make sure that they are all healthy and strong. In the rare event that they are weak, sick, or wounded, we carefully work to nurse them back to health.

When the steers are ready for butchering, we take them to a small, local, trusted butcher to prepare the meat. We are involved in every step of the process, and when you buy our meat, you can be confident that we care a lot about our cows and work hard to ensure the best quality with every cow.
